I love wild mushrooms and in my native Finland mushroom hunting is a really common activity. The autumn season is about to start here as well, thanks for reminding!
When I lived in California, I was always confused by winter being the mushroom season. It of course makes sense because that's when it rains there, but still it was weird.
I spent four summers in Colorado and in 2010 we found tons of king boletes, but practically none in the other years. Last year was good for king boletes (porcini) in Finland but the season was very short. Trumpet chanterelles are probably my favourites, though. Still have lots of them in the freezer, I think the dried ones are gone.
