I'm definitely in the habit of taking casual photos on my iPhone 5, but filled up the memory and recently busted out my old Cannon 13 megapixel point-and-shoot that I haven't really used in a couple of years. It was an interesting experience. The Cannon wins in good lighting and zoom of course, as certainly the lens still counts for a lot, but it's absolutely amazing what the iphone can do in difficult light conditions, which is probably where a lot of people take most of their photos (indoors, at night, etc.) The iphone's processing power just killed it there. My guess is point and shoots have improved here in the last few years too, but it was interesting to compare the two.
