Quite an evolution. I started in high school with my parents' manual Smith Corona. In college had some kind of electric. I was always a crappy typist, but I never retyped a page because of a mistake. Eraser, whiteout, etc. When I started working, I dictated, cut and pasted (scotch tape actually), secretaries used Selectric, mag card, Wang, WordStar, etc. Word processing pool. You would get down on your knees to persuade the best word processor to pull an all nighter.
Now I type all my own stuff even though I still suck and I have an assistant who types over 100 wpm with no mistakes. Her time is better spent on other stuff.
