The odss are against the computer not the other players Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 10 Jan 2016 06:04:03 In Reply to: I don't get it, No Snaab, Sat, 9 Jan 2016 15:36:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Regardless of how many players, or how large the pot, the odds of having the correct 5 numbers and the Power Ball number are approximately 1:292 Million.
So in my mind, as long as the pot is bigger than that number (other may adjust it so that the post taxes pay out is bigger than 292 Million) theoretically I am better off to buy one ticket. At the current pot size you could justify buying more than just one ticket and still be theoretically ahead.
You are probably correct that the possibility of having to share that pot with other winners increases with the number of tickets sold, otherwise the number of ticket buyers only impacts the speed at which the pot grows.
