Yeah, GM actually has a *reasonable* history with turbos... Starting out with the Jetfire, later on we had the less-than-good 2nd gen f-body with the not-so-good 301 turbo, but that did give birth to the LC2 3.8 turbo, which became a rocket ship. Their lesser LG5 3.1 turbo was not a bad motor - not an overachiever but a solid performer. There was also the Family II turbo, the LT3 2.0 that appeared in the Sunbird.
Honda and Toyota have never treated the American market like they've treated their domestic market. Both brands have sold mountains of turbo charged engines that we never got - everything from tiny 600cc Kei cars to 2.0l sports cars. They just fully bought into the notion Americans don't like turbos... because historically we don't!
On the subject of Honda, turbo, and Kei, let's hope they decide to get us the S660. A mid-engine 2-seater convertible that gets obscene gas mileage? Take my money.
