Tail light bucket is bent which apparently is labor intensive to correct since it means the back edge of the rear fender has moved inward.
So now lots of options. Cancel claim and drive as-is (damage is that slight). Accept total and look for something else. Accept total, buy back car, and privately pay to have it repaired. But a 14 year old car with high miles is still a big concern, at least to his Mom and I.
My one B-I-L is a Salesperson at a big GM store north of Grand Rapids. He says the sub-$100/month Cruze leases are still in effect although with a 10K mile per year limit. This might work for our Son since his Med School rotations are only 10 or 15 miles from his home. A 27 month lease should get him into Residency where he will be getting paid and could change to a car he really likes. A 36 month lease will carry him nearly a year into his Residency but the annual mileage limit might bite him in the butt depending where he gets accepted.
He is a smart kid/man so he will figure this one out.
