There are many examples of tech stocks that would have been bad to hold for long term when bought at half their peak value... it really depends on how overvalued it was when you bought it. How lucrative could LinkedIn become, etc? might it lose popularity and hence revenue? Could another player come in and disrupt their market. These are all things to consider. LinkedIn seems pretty stable, but market valuation can still make the stock very unstable. There are stable profitable tech companies that have been growing well in recent years, but with trading values 100x lower than peak valuation. One would have been much better to cut losses and buy at the bottom of that roller coaster!
