went to his 90th birthday party last year.

My father died at only 76 about 19 years ago. He was a Brit and had been on North Atlantic convoy duty on the HMS Rodney, a battleship that played a key role in the sinking of the Bismarck. When he was on board they did runs to Murmansk and to Malta, all convoys under the threat of U-boats. But he would almost never talk about it. I would have loved to hear the first hand accounts but he just wouldn't. Some things, I guess, were just too harsh for him to revisit.

But whether they share their stories or not, the WW2 vets really did save the world.
