A new looking car was on the shoulder of the expressway, its driver's side front fender and grille both distorted messes of mangled metal and broken plastic. No other vehicle stopped on either shoulder.
The tell-tale sign of what had happened was the large chunks of truck tire carcass that littered two lanes of the highway near the car. My guess is that a truck tire let go when the car was in the adjacent lane, the twisted metal and broken plastic was the result of the car absorbing the force of the explosion.
