Easy to say that was his plan "all along" because it did not work out, but interviews with people who worked with him and knew what they were trying to do, had they had funding, have spoken about his belief in Saab. If he fooled all of the people he worked most closely with, he is a better actor than some Oscar winners.
The way I look at it is at the time Muller stepped in, Saab had no chance at all...GM was going to shut it down...because GM would not sell to bidders who had a real chance. Sure, Muller was attempting a long shot, but it was that or nothing. If they could have got funding and built the 9-3 replacement based on the phoenix platform and derived from Castriotta's concept, it might have worked. I know I would have bought one.
