Gasoline Smell Posted by pme [Email] (#1496) [Profile/Gallery] (more from pme) on Mon, 26 Sep 2016 09:27:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all
A couple of weeks ago I had posted about some misfire codes my wife's GMC was experiencing. Under extended warranty, the dealer replaced the fuel injectors. After that we had a deep raw fuel smell, and two trips back later, a leaking fuel line as well as two of the new injectors were replaced.
We still have a fuel smell; nothing like the others (which smelled like a refinery accident). Its a whiff of fuel smell coming in the vents on startup (when hot) or noticeable in an enclosed space (like our garage). Dealer insists that nothing is leaking (and I tend to believe them - it smells like residual spillage that needs to dissipate)
I'v isolated it to an area against the passenger firewall, near the cabin air intake. Dealer says that while there is no direct fuel plumbing there, in all likelihood, there was spillage or fuel spray during the repair that got into the fiberglass insulation on the firewall. It activates when heated by the engine (no smell when cold).
My long-winded questions is this -- does anyone know of any way to accelerate the dissipation of this odor? Any cleaner to spray on that fiberglass matting?
I really just want this behind me!
Thanks
~pme
