Thanks much to Saabnet for this message - it's 2nd only to my introduction to LeMons for 'Things I Couldn't Have Afforded to Miss, and I Owe You One'!
I'd gone to the movie having read the first two chapters of the book, and then put it down so the movie would stand on its own merits. It definitely did. The movie has a light and practical Swedish intent and precision, grounded in reality. . . sound culturally familiar? :)
Go see it.
The car scenes alone are to smile at (and no wonder, since one of the movie reviews mentions that filming was done 'in the town where Saabs were built' and that they just drove the cars down from the Saab Museum.)
I will caution you that Ove is a well-worn and opinionated Swede, particularly about the makes of cars. If you drive an Audi you'll see. :) And if you drive a Volvo, well, that's possibly tolerable but to be regretted.
