Reading the last article from the last page ( sob ) of the last issue of Sports & Exotics by Satch Carlson, he wrote something to the tune of " only a fool would change a cold engines oil " . He was doing maintenance on his Z4 I think. So it's probably been discussed here a dozen times, but I just don't see the logic here. The only cold ( read thicker ) residue of oil your leaving behind is the 3 or 4 inches on the side of the pan. It was hot when you parked it last and everything has drained from above just like it would if you ran it and then drained it. In fact, maybe more so since it's been sitting a overnight so more has drained from above. I can't see how a cold drain is a disadvantage ?
