IIRC, the big obstacle in GM's selling their brands was the condition that the buyers must continue to use GM tech, parts, platforms, etc.; it wasn't so much a sale but a lease/purchase. GM still wanted a piece of the action. I think that's really why Koeniggsegg backed off. GM was glad to sell off OG 9-5 tech, but didn't want any Chinese manufacturers to access their new R&D because they were competing in the Chinese market. Muller thought he could work with the limitations imposed by GM, including where his capital came from, and all he got for his trouble was a bankrupt company and prosecution.
