You aren't shopping very well Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Sun, 2 Jul 2017 16:08:09 In Reply to: Re: Huh?, JerseySaab [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 2 Jul 2017 15:04:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You do not need to buy anything from Apple (which doesn't support Android apps in any case), nor need to buy the most expensive $750+ smartphones (i.e. Samsung Galaxy S8) to get almost all of the benefits of ownership. Something like a Samsung Galaxy J7 (full retail is $250) or J3 Prime ($150) will serve you more than admirably - you can usually find them new for even less on Amazon or Ebay, or a refurb of a nicer year-old phone for a fraction of the new price. Biggest difference in the more expensive phones is a higher resolution screen, which might be important is you watch a lot of videos on a dinky 5" screen, and a better camera for low light conditions.
I'm quite content with my $150 phone that I bought two years ago, other than when taking outdoor pictures at night. Yes, my wife and kid have more expensive phones than me, but I wanted one that I can shove in my pocket and not worry about - they have purses, which are a friendlier environment. Meanwhile, my newest laptop is many years old and unlike my phone I don't have it with me 24/7.
Oh, and I also have a dual boot Linux machine that I built from scratch repurposing an old Dell case.
