2007 9-5 banged up in parking lot Posted by inca99 [Email] (#1862) [Profile/Gallery] (more from inca99) on Wed, 13 Dec 2017 14:29:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My dad's 2007 9-5 was parked at Lowe's the other day and, while inside, a contractor ("Joe") cut it too close and peeled off my dad's front bumper, messed up the hood & broke the headlight. They got a police report and exchanged insurance co. info. We are scheduled to meet my parents in FL for Christmas, leaving next week. Joe's ins co., Nationwide, has been slow to communicate with us and today let us know they won't be looking at the car til next Tues., a day before they leave! I have a feeling they are going to low-ball the car's value, in order to total it out. Dad's insurance agent valued it at about $6400 - not bad, but for my him to replace the car with the same thing, I'm pretty sure it would cost him more than that, especially when you factor in travel, tax, tag, title, dealer fees, etc. He got an estimate for $4900 to repair it, but they can't start til late Dec. He obviously can't drive the car to FL in this condition, so should we be asking Nationwide to rent him a car until we settle, or should my dad's insurance co. cover the rental? I'm not sure how to advise him. By the way, the 9-5 sedan has about 90K and is (was) in mint condition. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
