I went down there in the 70s in my partying days, have no recollection who won but will forever remember lingering till after the race and the concessions closed so we followed a fellow with a cart loaded with mint juleps to the press box where a we were prevented from entering, but we saw Howard Cosell and hailed him and Howard to our dismay instructed the doorkeep - let them in they will be my guests. Was difficult to tell who was more intoxicated but we did get a free mint julep courtesy of Howard, god bless him.
Anyways I turned the derby on briefly and who is being interviewed but Von Miller of the Denver Broncos - as if I care to see Von Miller or any other over exposed celebrity or sports hero at the derby getting their face in front of the camera so off went the TV.
