How did they get it to go backwards?

Fascinating, but how did they get it to go backwards? The last
picture in the article shows the engine in the back, and if they
used a SAAB 900 transmission, from looking at the side it has to
be flipped around. So how did they do it? I guess if Pontiac
could do it with the Fiero (was the engine direction switched?)
these guys could do it.
