Both sons are great at math. Which meant when they asked for help it was on the really hard theoretical stuff, not the "plug and crank" formulaic stuff.
I had a former Supervisor who would ask freshly graduated Electrical Engineers during their job interview to recite the Quadratic Equation from memory. Algebra 1 material from 9th Grade! I am not sure why exactly he asked this question. I guess he thought it differentiated between those who knew the material from those who knew on what page the material was located, or who knew less than that. Or maybe he felt it was so basic to engineering that the question served as an ice breaker during interviews.
