Ok, there is the fact that likely in 2020 the base model will be history, but is it not
a nice driving 4-door hatchback with pretty good cargo capacity? I had an '85 (first
year of the golf in the us), it seemed pretty zippy and held a boatload of stuff with
the seats folded down (not flat though), and 4 adults and weekend luggage with them
up. The best bit was the cranked solid metal sunroof. Lasted quite a while before
succumbing to rust. The newer ones look a little smaller though. Just surprised
it hasn't come up as an option.
To each his own, I guess. My son and his buddy are out looking at a 4-runner.
