If you are interested in hatchbacks, there's also the Opel-based Buick Regal Sportback which is similar in size (at least as far as exterior dimensions) to the VW Arteon.

If you are willing to consider used, Audi has a couple of 4 door hatchback options like the A5 Sportback and A7 plus BMW has a several 3, 4, 5, and 6 Series Gran Turismo/Gran Coupe models. These should all be available under $40K as CPO.
