With an app like PlugShare you can identify charger locations, and they are also shown on the Tesla Nav. In southern Maine there are lots, many in upscale locations (LL Bean has a pile of Tesla Superchargers). You would only need to use a public charger on a very long drive, so presumably there is a fairly large geographic area you can pick from. Hard to imagine having to use a charger in a sketchy abandoned parking lot. That presumes you can charge at home so you start full, and that you have a car with good range. The experience of Scott’s friend does not surprise me.
Considering the time balance, on the other side of the scale you spend 0 time in gas stations and close to 0 with maintenance.
