I think some want to give Saab too much "credit" for the use of 4 cylinder turbo engines these days. Automakers were using turbos before Saab and in the 1980s, Chrysler Corporation was selling far more 4 cylinder turbos in a wider range of models than Saab ever did.
Today's wide use of turbo engines (4 cylinder or other) is not thanks to GM, Chrysler, Saab or any other manufacturer. It really has much more to do with meeting fuel economy/CAFE standards. Without those government regulations, normally aspirated engines would still be the norm.
