Some decades ago my father was resistant to winter tires on all four wheels because of cost. So new Nokians on front only for my mom's 900 with Goodyear NCT on the rear. The first time she let up on the gas to slow down for a stop sign from 15 mph the car did a 1080. I imagine her underwear were soiled before the second spin was complete. In the ensuing four decades, we have NEVER had a front wheel drive vehicle without winter tires on all four corners during slippery season, Saab or no Saab.
Front wheel drive (and all wheel drive) is very over rated for average drivers, particularly in situations with compromised road conditions.
My first responder friends had a bunch of new chapters for their book after the current storm system.
Yes, the front wheels turn and stop but the rears lose lateral traction and the vehicle spins-if the rear wheels then regain some traction, the vehicle rolls over.
