Afraid I don't know much about TIS2000 or GlobalTIS. The newest Saab I have is a 1997 9000 which doesn't need those. The only thing I've used the serial port on the laptop for was to program a Tech2 flash card with the V44 Saab software needed for the older models. The VirtualBox appliance idea sounds really good if those programs will work in that environment.
