About those shared platforms

For many years, Saab has had to share platforms to keep costs in line. The original 9000 shared a platform, as did the first NG900. Audi and VW do the same, and do it fairly well. Even Porshe and VW will be sharing future platforms. Pontiac makes a horrible looking vehicle on the platform, Buick makes a nicer one, or will be in next few months. Hopefully, the Saab will be head and shoulders above the Buick, as it is above the Aztec.
Saab can use such a vehicle to:
Appeal to those who are simply following the crowd into the RX300 and others car-based SUVs.
Provide an option for those families that simply cannot fit into a 9-5 wagon. My family of six simply won't fit. Volvo could sell me a 7 passenger wagon that is no bigger than the 9-5, so why can't Saab? But even if they did, it would not have the cargo space the family needs four weeks of the year.
Furnish the cash flow to keep up with the pack with innovations and enhancements on the bread and butter car lines. No longer can Saab get away with dated platforms, such as the 9-3 (which I drive and enjoy).
BMW builds in SC, Mercedes in Alabama, let's just call the GM plant "way south Texas." Let's just wait and see what they come up with before we agonize over it.
