Jaguar S-Type rental car and tire pressure Posted by Andrew [Email] (#1013) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Andrew) on Sun, 20 May 2001 09:56:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Picked up a Jaguar S-Type 3.0 rental from Hertz (yup, went all out on this one!), and found that the ride was very harsh. I checked to make sure it didn't have the 17" wheel option- nope, 16s. Then I figured maybe tire pressure had something to do with it, so I found a tire pressure guage. The guage went up to 50psi. I could barely hold the guage on any of the tires because there was so much air in them! It went way above 50 on the guage, and took almost as much time to get down to 50psi as it did to get to the recommended (per the owner's manual) 32psi! So I'm guessing the tires had about 65-70psi each. The sidewall says "max pressure 44psi." BTW, they were Bridgestones. Needless to say, the ride improved greatly.
At what point would a tire burst with so much air? How unsafe was 65-70psi? If I had a tire problem due to the high pressure, could I have blamed Hertz? Why would they keep so much air in? I can understand keeping the tires a little high just so they don't have to constantly refill them, but double the recommended psi??
Oh, anyone know of a Jaguar forum similar to this one?
Thanks
Andrew
