Been on DISH for about 3 years...much better than cable

I switched to DISH when I got tired of cable rates going up continually and the fact that cable in my neighborhood went out about once a month for at least half a day to a whole day.
As others have said, DirecTV does have some exclusive contracts to offer packages for some of the professional sports that DISH cannot offer, but if that is not a critical factor for you, I think DISH is the better deal.
If you live in an area that gets heavy thunderstorms or snow storms, that can impact your reception while the storm passes over, but I have found it is more a function of the thickness/density of the storm clouds than how hard the rain or snow is falling. Even here in North Carolina where we can get some pretty heavy thunderstorms, I lose the signal less often than I did on cable and usually for only an hour or less while the heaviest part of the storm passes over.
