After years of watching the G-wagen being imported by a (now very wealthy) gentleman in Arizona, MB is finally getting around to selling it through its dealer network. Quoted from Autoweek (without permission :-) ):

Mercedes-Benz G500 sport/utility to sell for $72,500
Mercedes-Benz will sell its high-end G500 sport/utility vehicle-the U.S. version of Europe's Gelaende-wagen-for $72,500 (plus $695 freight). But get in line early because U.S. sales will be limited to 1000 to 2000 vehicles annually. The latest must-have for the country club set that'll never need its stump-pulling or cliff-climbing potential, the 2002 G500 will be handcrafted at a special factory in Graz, Austria. The G500 goes on sale late this year.
Mercedes says that, with leather seats, walnut trim and a 300-hp, aluminum 5.0-liter V8, the G500 competes with the Range Rover 4.6 HSE and Lexus LX 470. AM General's Hummer and BMW's X5 merit only secondary consideration. We assume that includes M-B's M-Class, as well.
