kent, written communication lacks many important cues for meaning and tone. take the comments @ face value.
where Dean said, "Please use a different handle, Dean_K would work" i think he was appropriately and cordially requesting that he do so, not being rude (he said 'please'), though maybe he could have explained why. there are many people on this board who post regularly - they are recognized by name, and with it the quality of their comments, insight (or lack thereof), etc. the request was simply to avoid confusion.
where Dean said, "Please do not cross post on the different BB's." i think he was appropriately and cordially requesting that he abide by the rules of this board, one of which is not to cross-post messages.
where Dean said, "thanks", i think he was appropriately and cordially saying thanks.
where Dean didn't welcome "dean", well, perhaps he should have. but where you jump on him for not having done so, well, perhaps you might have ignored someone else's minor social faux pas and kept your criticism to yourself.
