How many times a day / a week / a month are you going to put on and take off the snow cables? On in the morning, off in the afternoon? Several days in a row when it snows several nights in a row?
What about when you are going out all fancied up - are you going to put on the snow cables at 11PM after the show because it snowed while you were in the theatre? That would be very impressive for your date/customer/boss.
How about when you're traveling down the highway at rush hour and it starts snowing harder and harder - are you going to pull off to the breakdown lane and squat at each of your wheels in the white-out while the 4 lanes of traffic blows past at 60MPH blasting you with slurry and hope they see you?
Will you always have ideal conditions available to put on the snow cables? How about parked at a curb with a big plow deposited windrow, with the crap being splashed up on you while you are squatted down trying to wrap your arms around the tire to hook the cabless, trying to keep your ass from being hit by the big city bus going by and the wind is howling and blowing the snow to stick on the inside of your eyeglasses?
The main problem with snow and ice is STOPPING, not going. Chains are terrible when trying to panic stop on a reasonably clear icy road and snow cables do nothing at all. You want really good tires so you can stop when you have to, and nothing is harder than trying to stop on an icy / snowed on road except perhaps when that road is slanted down hill.
Don't by the snow tires so you can go in the snow, buy them so you can stop in the snow.
Is that enough BS for your friend?
