I used to live in Buffalo with a '92 900S stick. It kicked ass in the snow as long as the tires weren't bare (I used Pirelli P4000s -- I'm sure Blizzaks or Gislaveds would have been even better). I had the only SAAB in the neighborhood, and my neighbors used to marvel at how I could drive down the street in winter before it was plowed! Now I live in LA and drive a '96 Aero, so I don't worry too much about snow plows anymore! In response to the Vermont guy, though, I agree that a 900 with studded tires is great to drive in the snow on a highway, but there is no way it is a better foul weather highway car than an Audi quattro. Put the same tires (and drivers) in each car and see which feels safer. As big as SAAB is on safety, it's surprising they waited this long to come out with AWD.
