Years ago I had a 1979 Mazda RX-7. I rented an apartment in a two-family house here in Boston. The landlord had just spruced it up for me (new exterior paint, refinished floors, etc.) before my new wife and I moved in. It was our first apartment.
I used ramps to change the oil. I drove the car up on the ramps, popped the hood, and punched a hole in the oil filter to get it empty of oil. I then went in the house for some lunch, to give it time to drain.
When I got back out I was about to spin the now-empty filter off when I decided that the car was not sitting just right on the ramps. My wife came out to watch me start the car up and drive it the extra three inches needed. She could not miss the geyser of dirty oil that erupted from the hole in the filter. Thanks to the hood being open it sprayed a nice black spot on the (yellow) side of the newly-painted house, up at the second story level.
Even strong detergent does not do that good a job of getting black oil off cedar siding, I found. As a side benefit, my reputation with my wife as an ace mechanic was sealed. It remains intact to this day.
