It seems my information from earlier this fall was pretty good. Saab is going to unveil another concept car in January. In addition to telling me that Saab would introduce another concept car in January, my source indicated that neither the 9-3X or 9X would be production cars, rather that they are simply explorations in style, design, form, and function. New Saab models will derive some things from the concept cars, but not be based on them.
If the rest of my information is true that means:
1. No 9-3 hatchback beginning with 2003 models.
2. An SUV based on the 9-3 platform is coming.
3a. An AWD 9-3 performance variant is coming.
3b. A 9-3 Wagon is coming.
Basically, in that order. While I'm a huge huge huge fan of the 9-3 hatchback, I still think all of this is great news for Saab. I expect the demand for used 1999-2002 Saab 9-3 hatchbacks will be as brisk as 1990-93 900 hatchbacks are/have been on the TSN classifieds.
