I've never felt very comfortable with the idea of children sitting in what is basically the trunk only inches from the rear bumper... obviously the car has been tested adequately by Volvo, I trust them to do that properly, it's maybe more of a psychological issue I have... my g/f's S70 went through an extended series of silly little problems between 40,000 and 50,000 miles, like pigeon mentioned. Since the car has crossed 50k, thankfully it seems to have become problem free again. When the 850 was redesigned, they did fix a lot of the inherent problems with that car, but they also introduced a lot of new ones... a friend of mine works for Volvo, and he said that they just went to the low bidder on a lot of components, and these problems are the end result. This is not too different from what M-B started to do in the mid 1990's.
