60 month leases are everywhere...I can see several of them looking at the newspaper right now, so I would not have to pay the cap cost/fees again.
My assumptions were based on that both the lease and the purchase would drive the same miles...for me that would be low. I only said that leasing makes sense if you don't drive that many miles or if you negotiate those miles in the lease up front, which you can do.
You missed the point that your 5 year old car was traded in or sold at the end of the 60 months, so you would either have to buy another car, so you'd have to pay something, just like I would and your insurance on a finance car would have to be just as high as mine (In my state, you don't need GAP insurance). Also you might want to look around at the prices on 5 year old SAABs, $7000 for a trade in is not unheard of...and I was just using the previous example posted by someone else anyway.
So as I said, if I want a new car...even every 5 years, why would I not lease? I never said that leasing a car was more practical than owning a car for years and years...who would. What I did say was that if you get a new car even as infrequent as 5 years and you don't drive that many miles, why would you not lease? Having said that, I would personally not do a 5 year lease because that is outside the warranty period for most vehicles. I would and do, lease for 48 months or less and get a new vehicle. I wish I could keep a car forever...that is the most cost-effective way, but my one weakness is cars, I want a nice car...always, so leasing works for me.
