Segway - will anyone actually use one?

I just finished studying this wierd device which is supposed to be the next wave in personal transport in cities. The Segway video is really strange - these people are just gliding along the ground without moving a muscle, except for tilting their bodies to go forward and reverse, and to steer with the twist grips.
At $3500 it seems to be grossly overpriced. I just can't envision many people buying them at that price. Elderly folks might be good target buyers, but I would not like to be around a bunch of zooming seniors with limited reflexes and coordination, even if the machine is doing the balancing. And at 80 lbs it is way too heavy for any senior to lift up stairs or into a trunk.
And what happens when you run one wheel into a pot hole? Does that result in a spectacular face plant while the machine balances there watching you bleed? Do they come with On-Star?
I think I will stick to legs and bikes.
