And lots of quality storage and practical waste recepticals. Wall-hangers for orderly access to tools and ease of putting them away is important.
A close-by water outlet and even a stainless steel industrial sink would be a plus.
Your local weather is a factor. We bought a whole house on the basis that the driveway/parking pad was meant for at least three cars and the garage faced south. The warming effect of the Sun streaming into the garage in the cold months made it an exceptionally versatile place to hang out.
Make it your own. Buy a second hand stool and some other seating arrangements for when people drop by to chat. Put car posters and other special memorabilia on the walls. Change 'em out if you want others.
Paint/Don't paint the concrete floor. As far as I know, nobody yet makes a paint which will stay on the travelled surfaces but you'll be able to keep down the dust in the non-travelled surface by painting w concrete-adhesive paint.
