The term "division" really hasn't ment a damm thing at GM for years. Under it's much cleaner sheetmetal the Olds Alero is the same as a Pontiac Grand Am. So what's the concern about the "division" (or rather... NAME) going away? Parts. GM isn't going belly up and as the maker of the car they will be required by law to continue to carry parts for the car for the next 10 years and after that well, again it's the same as a Grand Am so there will be parts available for that car at the stores for the next 30 years. Perhaps warrenty coverage is what you are concerned about? Any GM dealer will be more that happy to do warrenty work on any GM made car. So it's not like a company is going belly up. GM is just droping a division that has only been a "division" in name for the last 30 years.
