I agree, one would think Ford should be able to get more power out of that engine. It seemed like your first post said that the Ford engine was larger, and less powerful than the Chevy mill, when it's actually smaller.
That 390hp 5.4L engine works out to 72 hp/liter while Chevy's Z06 engine is 71hp/liter. That's really not bad for a perf. n/a engine.
Do you know redlines for the two engines? I'd expect the DOHC engine to rev higher.
