spacecraft into Neptune a couple of years ago? That alone should convince us (americans, that is) to finally complete the switch.
I can remember learning about the metric system when I was in grade school back in the '70s, and it didn't take much explaining to show a bunch of 7-year-old kids how much better than the SAE ("standard american english") system. I still don't know exactly how many feet there are in a mile (5 thousand something), but gee-whiz! 1000 meters in a kilometer. 1 cubic centimeter equals 1 milliliter. 1 cc of H2O weighs 1 gram. Can anyone remember how many fathoms there are in a furlong?
Don't even get me started about trying to make physics equations work in SAE...
