Maybe my tone was a bit harsh earlier and I apologize for that. But the reality is, you can't control every situation you get yourself into. You can be the best driver in the world but still get in a serious accident through no fault of your own. You can trust fate that nothing will ever happen and the chances of you being in a life-threatening accident in which you find yourself unable to get help are small. But so are the chances of me needing my life insurance tomorrow or even me needing my seatbelt. I have lived 30+ years, not needed life insurance yet, never even been in a situation in which my seatbelt helped me. Does that mean I'll cancel my life insurance tomorrow or stop wearing my seatbelt? No.
As for the privacy issue, OnStar does not track every OnStar subscriber 24 hours a day. They have no incentive to do so nor do they have the technical capability to do so. OnStar will never take control of your car and keep you from driving where you want to and how you want to.
Sure, every OnStar owner has the right to disconnect their system. All I'm saying is that it COULD save your life and if it's free, why would you want to get rid of it?
