bought a new G4 in november, very fast, no complaints there. but quality seems to be lacking from apple on this model. i have owned macs since about 1992, starting with a IIci. never had any problems with them breaking, except for this new one. first, the mouse is jumpy. it was really bad when new, but now it seems to have quieted down. called apple about it and they said theyve had no reports of problems...hmm. also with the computer i bought an internal zip and the isub and speakers. isub makes funny noises (pops and rattles), i have to get that fixed. they wont just take it back as defective. secondly the zip drive failed (no surprise there, the zip drive is known to be a weak piece of hardware, ive gone through 4 since they came onto the market). now, just friday the thing wont turn on. just wont boot up. hmmm.

so i have to, like you drive about 45 minutes tomorrow morning to a service center. that really sucks. build quality seems to be lacking in the current macs, which i hope is not a result of more profitiablility or increased number of units sold. still, i wouldnt like to use windows xp everyday.

as for the cd burning issue, before you take your machine in, try useig adaptec's toast. i have had probelms using apple's disk burner software. if your running X, go to apples website and download the FREE trial of toast titanium for X. it works fine for me, whereas disk burner always fails to write. if your using 9, go to http://www.adaptec.com and hope theres a free trial of toast for 9.
