I have a problem where I live with lightning stikes. I have whole house protection (and their insurance) on the electric power, but the phone company does not have the same deal. I have gone through 4 answering machines and cordless phones in one year. Twice the customer interface has been blown off the side of the house and all the wall jacks blew too.Had to buy new underwear after the 2nd to the last one. AND the phone lines are underground. SO I paid the extra at Best Buy and they keep me in phones. I unplug my computer whenever I'm not using it,having a laptop helps, and I never use it in a thunderstorm. Anything else, and I tell them "no thank you".
I have also learned not to sit on the toilet in a thunderstorm, If lightning hits a tree by the septic field AND you have cast sewer pipes AND you have metal pipes in the water supply it will blow the comode off the floor when it tries (succesfully) to get to the water pump.(guess what it blows ot of the sewer pipe!)
