About 2 years ago I took my 85 900t to one of those quick cheep brake pad changing joints. Well anyway they informed me that my front calapers were "locked" and that to replace the calaper would cost me $400+ because they have to be replaced in pairs and because price of saab parts... I asked why not just rebuild them... He said it was impossable. After some dealing with the man I told him "Go ahead and put the car together - I will find someone else". I was told that I had signed a paper and that he would not put let me leave without having a $800 of work done on the car. I informed him that I signed to have you work on a $125 break job (I was about to inform him my signature was not leagle binding as I was only 16 at the time). Well to make a long story short no threats were made and he let me leave with out a big ordeal. I got the job done at a local indipendent saab mechanic for under $600 - he rebuilt the calaper ;-) - plus he replaced some other stuff that was needing replaced.
Similar thing happened to a fellow saab owner - They love to present a good size bill to a young teen.
I will never let anyone touch my car again.
I believe if you can't fix it yourself... you are drivin the wrong car - Saabs are fun to work on
