Add to that demand the Russians, who in February produced the
most oil of any country in the world and who want cars, just like
we do. Next big oil? Sakhalin Islands (Shell - Exxon $12B) and
Central Asia with a pipeline through Afghanistan to Pakistan and
India - another billion-person economy.
Announced signatories to Kyoto now include Germany, Japan, and the
UK.
As for China, I took a look at the US trade figures the other
day. It is absolutely astounding how much trade is done with a country
most people figure on only in terms of a nuclear threat and a human
rights abuser. As well, although they have a looooong way to go. they
are actually reducing pollution there and with the huge Three Gorges
hydro plant opening up, will dramatically reduce reliance on dirty
brown coal. As well, Canada is selling them power plant nuke technology
as far as I know.
