About 5 years ago I was riding my mountain bike on a nearly deserted roadway (2 lanes each way, 1 turn lane). I was in the right-hand side of the right-hand lane, in the afternoon of a sunny day, wearing a white shirt and bike with reflectors... Some old lady hit me, crunched the back wheel, threw me. I somehow popped my shoulder back into its socket and dragged my bike off the road and sat down to catch my breath. Then the lady DROVE OFF!!! luckily I had a pen and paper in my hip pack, i got her plate number. A witness coming the other way took me to a phone and I called the cops. They got her at her house later and she said she didn't know what to do, she'd never been in an accident. They found paint from my bike frame on her bumper...
Many months of therapy later, and calling a friend's father (lawyer), I settled out of court for injuries. I was very angry with the lady, and I'm still scared to ride my bike on the road.
