Unfortunately you typically wind up with somewhat of a compromise re whether the optimum "stealth" location mounting point negatively affects the units reception of radar signals. Then also you face the problem that the typical rear view mirror mounting location in Saabs does not allow for much room to mount a detector between the windshield and the mirror. The approach which I have used has been as follows:
1. On my wife's 9-5, I purchased a suction cup mounting platform (that you can attached the detector to the top or the bottom of, using velcro tabs included) from Best Buy. Our Bel radar detector is mounted to the top of this platform and it just clears the top of the rearview mirrow when mounted to the right side of the mirror.
2. On my 1994 9000 Aero, I used the write-up on Quasimotors site to lower the mounting position of the rear view mirror. This lower mirror position gave me just enough room to mount my Valentine V-1 above the left side of the rear view mirror.
Good luck!
