To me, HIGHLY unimportant Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Sun, 26 May 2002 12:52:47 In Reply to: 9-5 bumpers flunk test, John A., Fri, 24 May 2002 19:36:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yeah, it would be great if the bumpers on the 9-5 were cheap to repair. It would be great, too, if I could get a 9-5 Aero for $20K new.
What is more important to me than how much the car costs to repair after a collision is how much I COST to repair after a collision. Another difference is that you can always replace the bumper - not all human injuries heal perfectly.
I had an accident with my 900 a few years back - hit ice and slid into a bridge abuttment. My passenger and I opened the doors and walked away, no scratches, not even brusing. But the car was a total loss. It would not have been OK if I traded a broken arm and facial lacerations for a $5000 savings in the repair bill.
If I back my car into a cement post, I'll pay my$500 deductable and the insurance will pick up the rest. But I can control hitting cement posts by paying attention. As much as I like to think I'll avoid all accidents, I know that's not possible. I prefer my car give up its life to protect me.
