There is no one answer to this question. The solution you seek depends heavily upon an infinite number of personal characteristics of yours and your grandmother's. I am 18 now, my father died of lung cancer nearly 21 months ago, so I have a recent reminder of such circumstances. His illness was mercifully quick however, and little more than 3 months passed from diagnosis to death. You will try to console them with kind words and fond memories, but in the end, the greatest consolation is your very existence. Everybody wants to believe that their life meant something and that the world will be made better, or at least different, as a result of their time here. Seeing that you are an effective and well-liked member of society is the best testament there is to the lives and accomplishments of those who came before you. That is not to say you shouldn't try to ease the shock and anguish that accompany such a death sentence, however I'm just trying to say that if she doesn't seem to be uplifted by gestures like this, it may be normal. It seems that when somebody discovers that their end is imminent, they don't want to focus on death but rather the life they led, and that which will take place after they're gone. My two cents.
